40 Years Later

 Flavor Craver Shrimp Dip

½ cup Heinz Chili Sauce
1 pkg. (8-oz.) softened cream cheese
½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup chopped onion
2 teaspoons horseradish
1 can (4-oz.) tiny shrimp, rinsed and drained

Gradually blend chili sauce into cream cheese.  Mix in mayonnaise, onion and horseradish.  Fold in shrimp.   Cover and chill at least 1 hour.  Makes 2 ½ cups.

In the never ending battle against pile-itis, I discovered this recipe cut from the back of a box of Chippos.  Chippos, you ask?  “Chippos potato chips are made a new way to be stronger, crunchier – perfect for dipping…”

The recipe encourages you to buy Heinz Chili Sauce as well as the Chippos.  By sending in 3 box tops from the Chippos and a neck band from the chili sauce, they will send you 45 cents (Heinz Chili Sauce average retail price).   Limit 1 per family.  Void where prohibited.  Offer expires July 1, 1972

I wanted to make this recipe and see if it was any good.  The answer is YES! although I would add more shrimp.  For the record, I paid $2.89 for the Heinz Chili Sauce.  I usually buy the generic brand but wanted to see if there was a difference in flavor.  I like the Heinz better than the Western Family generic.
