Well, Hello February!

Pretty sure the groundhog will not see his shadow tomorrow!
I shoveled twice yesterday and twice today.  Light powdery snow so easy shoveling and those sidewalks and driveways that were shoveled both days melted to dry pavement as the days warmed up.  A good thing too because now we have two very cold days predicted before we get back into the mid 30s for daytime highs.

It was a very good day to be at the sewing machine quilting the January baby quilt.  There is a heat vent under the sewing table, directly in front of my feet.

PSA for Sewists

I was sewing on a block yesterday and had just finished a seam. I pulled it out from under the presser foot only to discover it was not sewn together because I had run out of bobbin thread. No alarm had sounded and it should have as that is a feature of my machine.  However, because this has happened before, I didn't run my machine over to the Cotton Shop for repair. That would have been embarrassing as is so shockingly shown in the picture.

So I've decided to make cleaning my machine an end of the month, every month, priority. You might want to consider it if your are sewing constantly.

Testing

Ha!  Perhaps it is just my positive attitude today and even though I did not spend any time editing or I should say finding out about editing in iPhoto, I am calling this a victory.

A clear sign for all of 2016.  Yay!

New Recycling Program Begins

The city is now picking up the recycling and this is the new truck.  Much bigger than the ones used by the company which had been contracted out.  Much confusion over the last few weeks over the old cans and the new.  Today some houses had old and new both filled and it was nice to see that the city truck dumped both.  I expect to see the old cans taken away very soon.

I couldn't get a very good picture but you can kind of see that there is a part of the truck protruding in front of the cab.  This is where the can is emptied first.  Not sure how many cans it takes to fill that part but at some time that container is flipped over the top of the truck.  We might have to follow them around some time.
If you look closely at the center of the picture, you can see our container being tipped to be emptied.

The Mighty Baker

New!  Directly south of the Library!  Hopefully he will get a lot of walk-ins because I took this picture today, Sunday, and there are still cars parked in front of the store. Not much parking on the Library's side of the street or in the south Library lot either during the day.  Still, it can be done as I did it on Wednesday.

I had seen the remodeling going on but on Wednesday as I drove past, there were balloons out in front so I went around the block and, amazingly, did find a parking spot across the street.

It turns out that The Mighty Baker's first day of business was Tuesday.  I was there around one o'clock and the cases were not overly full so perhaps he had sold a lot already. I bought an individual apple tart and it was very good.  He was ready to put it in a box for me, fps, which would have made me feel very special indeed but was really not necessary.
$2.50 plus tax
I stopped a woman outside to ask her a question about something she was carrying into the back of the building on the right.  It happens that she owns the building and will be renting space to small businesses and "creatives". I love the sound of that!  She has done a wonderful job so far with the painting on the outside... and getting the baker in there.

I'm hoping the MB will be able to make a Boston Cream Pie for my birthday.  It's a big one next year.

Wedding Gift

This was my sewing today, a small gift for an acquaintance getting married today.  This wedding day was picked especially because of Halloween, the bride's favorite holiday.  All the decorations at the reception will be Halloween and the guests have been encouraged to come in costume.  I think it's great to have the confidence to do what will make you happy.
Pillowcases for the happy couple!
I dropped them off this afternoon for Torey to wrap-up in a gift bag as she is invited to the reception.  Torey wraps things up beautifully.
I might just need a pair myself.
